SysInformation Healthcare Services Data Breach Investigation

Turke & Strauss LLP, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating SysInformation Healthcare Services, LLC (“SysInformation”) which does business as EqualizeRCM and 1st Credentialing, regarding its recent data breach. The SysInformation data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

SysInformation is a is a group of investors and operators focused on healthcare and business services.2 Today, SysInformation’s portfolio of companies, including EqualizeRCM and 1st Credentialing, are making a difference in executive, operational and revenue cycle management across the US healthcare landscape.2 Headquartered in Austin, Texas, EqualizeRCM provides expert and scalable revenue cycle management services to healthcare entities.3 With over 600 associates, EqualizeRCM operates in over twenty states providing a variety of services ranging from strategic consulting to claims auditing to back office billing.3 1st Credentialing is a leading provider of comprehensive credentialing solutions for all healthcare practices and facilities.4 Headquartered in Austin, Texas, 1st Credentialing supports all practices, facilities, specialties and individual providers in payor credentialing, re-credentialing and primary source verification services.4

WHAT HAPPENED?

In June 2023, SysInformation discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, SysInformation determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information between June 3 and June 18, 2023. As a result, SysInformation began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Driver’s license or government identification number
  • Passport information
  • Student identification number
  • Employee identification number
  • Tax identification number
  • Electronic signature
  • Financial account information
  • Medical information (e.g., medical history, treatment information)
  • Health insurance information
  • Mothers maiden name
  • Login information
