OSF HealthCare Data Breach Investigation

Turke & Strauss LLP, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating OSF HealthCare regarding its recent data breach. The OSF HealthCare data breach may have involved sensitive personal information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

ABOUT OSF HEALTHCARE:

OSF HealthCare is an integrated health system owned and operated by The Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis, headquartered in Peoria, Illinois.2 Comprised of 16 hospitals OSF HealthCare has 2,131 licensed beds throughout Illinois and Michigan.2 Today, OSF HealthCare employs more than 23,000 Mission Partners across 158 locations; has two colleges of nursing; operates OSF Home Care Services, an extensive network of home health and hospice services; owns Pointcore, Inc., comprised of health care-related businesses; OSF HealthCare Foundation, the philanthropic arm for the organization; and OSF Ventures, which provides investment capital for promising health care innovation startups.2

WHAT HAPPENED?

On July 26, 2023, Welltok, Inc., a third-party vendor of OSF HealthCare, discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which personal identifiable information and protected health information may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, Welltok determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information through a vulnerability in the MOVEit file sharing platform, which Welltok utilized, on May 30, 2023. On November 29, 2023, OSF HealthCare confirmed in a statement that it was impacted by the Welltok data breach.1
