Northeast Orthopedics Data Breach Investigation

Turke & Strauss LLP, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Northeast Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, PLLC (“Northeast Orthopedics”) regarding its recent data breach. The Northeast Orthopedics data breach involved personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to over 170,000 individuals.

Providing quality, comprehensive, advanced musculoskeletal and related care, Northeast Orthopedics engages in various diagnostic tests, like EMG and ultrasound, to determine the right diagnosis and treat a variety of conditions including ACL tears, carpal tunnel syndrome, sciatica and fractures – just to name a few.4 Today, Northeast Orthopedics’ areas of expertise include general orthopedics, sports medicine, joint replacement, hand and upper extremity, foot and ankle, spinal care, rheumatology, pain management, and diagnostic testing.4 Northeast Orthopedics has nine locations in southeastern New York and is affiliated with five additional hospitals and surgical centers in the surrounding area.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Northeast Orthopedics discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, Northeast Orthopedics determined that an unauthorized party may have accessed this sensitive information on November 22, 2023. On February 9, 2024, Northeast Orthopedics began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license information
  • Payment information
  • Date of birth
  • Medical record information
  • Health insurance information
  • Treatment and diagnosis information
