Connecticut College Data Breach Investigation

Connecticut College is a private liberal arts college located in New London, Connecticut. Founded in 1911, Connecticut College offers over 50 majors, minors, and certificate programs across a variety of academic interests, including anthropology, education, economics, mathematics, communications, performing arts, science, and sociology. Competing in Division III of the NCAA as the Camels, Connecticut College has 28 intercollegiate varsity teams and enrolls over 1,700 students annually.3

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Connecticut College discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, Connecticut College determined that an unauthorized party may have accessed this sensitive information on or about March 3, 2023. On February 7, 2024, Connecticut College began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license or government issued ID number
  • Student identification number
  • Education records information
  • Financial aid information
  • Financial account information and/or access code
  • Health benefits/enrollment information
  • Medical record number and/or treatment information
