Atlanta Women’s Health Group Data Breach Investigation

Turke & Strauss LLP, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Atlanta Women’s Health Group, P.C. (“AWHG”), regarding its recent data breach. The AWHG data breach involved sensitive personal information and protected health information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

AWHG is the parent organization for a consortium of practices, all of which specialize in Obstetrics and Gynecology, based in Georgia.2 Founded in 1999, AWHG is one of the largest OB/GYN practices in the southeast, responsible for serving approximately 300,000 patients representing over 400,000 visits annually and delivering approximately 12,000 babies each year.2 Primarily servicing the Atlanta Metropolitan and Athens Metropolitan Areas, AWHG serves patients in over 40 locations providing comprehensive OB/GYN care.2 Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, AWHG employs more than 100 physicians and over 40 certified midwives.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, AWHG discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, AWHG determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information through its network on April 12, 2023. Recently, AWHG began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Date of birth
  • Patient ID number
  • Medical records
