PBI Research Services Data Breach Investigation

Turke & Strauss LLP, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Pension Benefit Information, LLC, which does business as PBI Research Services, regarding its recent data breach. The PBI Research Services data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to over 370,000 individuals.

ABOUT PENSION BENEFIT INFORMATION, LLC D/B/A PBI RESEARCH SERVICES:

PBI Research Services is an information technology and services company specializing in population management solutions. Accordingly, PBI Research Services offers tools related to death audits, missing participants, beneficiary research, treasury management, and more. Founded in 1980, PBI Research Services invests in high end technology, including artificial intelligence, to serve customers in the insurance, finance, third party administration, and public and corporate pension industries. Headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, PBI Research Services operates 2 satellite offices in Pennsylvania and Ohio.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On or around May 31, 2023, PBI Research Services discovered that Progress Software, a third-party vender used by PBI Research Services, experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to PBI Research Services’ clients may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, PBI Research Services determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed and obtained this sensitive information through a cyber-attack on the MOVEit file transfer software between May 29 and May 30, 2023. On or about June 4, 2023, PBI Research Services began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Address
  • Date of birth
