Transportation Federal Credit Union Data Breach Investigation

Turke & Strauss LLP, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Transportation Federal Credit Union (“TFCU”) regarding its recent data breach. The TFCU data breach involved sensitive personal information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

TFCU is a full-service, not-for-profit financial institution. Founded in 1939, TFCU serves transportation community employees, their family members, and active or retired employees, military personnel, or contractors of the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration, and over 20 employer groups. Today, TFCU offers a wide range of financial products and services, including checking and savings accounts, loans and lines of credit, combined with convenience services that enhance its members’ financial well-being. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., TFCU serves more than 17,000 members worldwide. 

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, TFCU discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, TFCU determined that an unauthorized party accessed this sensitive information through TCFU employee email accounts from August 30, 2023, to September 4, 2023, and from November 14, 2023, to November 15, 2023. On February 7, 2024, TFCU began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes: 

  • Name 
  • Social Security number 
  • Financial account information 
  • Divers license numbers

  5. Monitor credit reports for signs of identity theft; and
  6. Contact a credit bureau(s) to request a temporary fraud alert.
