Fincantieri Marine Group Data Breach Investigation

Fincantieri Marine Group is a shipbuilding company focused on the naval and commercial sector. Established in the late 1700s, Fincantieri Marine Group specializes in building, repairing, and sustaining a variety of maritime vessels, including military vessels, highly specialized support vessels, ferries, cruise ships, and mega yachts. Today, Fincantieri Marine Group is the US division of FINCANTIERI, one of the world’s largest shipbuilders, and is comprised of three Great Lakes shipyards: Fincantieri Marinette Marine, Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding, and Fincantieri ACE Marine.2 Headquartered in Washington, D.C., Fincantieri Marine Group employs more than 2,000 individuals.


On or about April 12, 2023, Fincantieri Marine Group discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and encrypted. Through its investigation, Fincantieri Marine Group determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information between April 6, 2023, and April 12, 2023. On January 5, 2024, Fincantieri Marine Group began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Social Security number
