Fincantieri Marine Group Data Breach Investigation

Today, Fincantieri Marine Group is the US division of FINCANTIERI, one of the world’s largest shipbuilders, and is comprised of three Great Lakes shipyards: Fincantieri Marinette Marine, Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding, and Fincantieri ACE Marine.2 Headquartered in Washington, D.C., Fincantieri Marine Group employs more than 2,000 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On or about April 12, 2023, Fincantieri Marine Group discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and encrypted. Through its investigation, Fincantieri Marine Group determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information between April 6, 2023, and April 12, 2023. On January 5, 2024, Fincantieri Marine Group began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
