Forward Bank Data Breach Investigation

Turke & Strauss LLP, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Forward Bank regarding its recent data breach. The Forward Bank data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

Forward Bank is an independent community bank serving customers in central and northern Wisconsin. Founded in 1919, Forward Bank provides a variety of banking products and services to individuals and businesses, including checking and savings accounts, loans and credit, wealth and investment management services, and financial education. Additionally, Forward Bank offers insurance products through Forward Insurance, such as home, auto, health, and life insurance policies. Headquartered in Marshfield, Wisconsin, Forward Bank has 14 additional locations throughout Wisconsin and operates more than 32,000 ATMs.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On September 10, 2023, Forward Bank discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, Forward Bank determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed and acquired this sensitive information on or around September 6, 2023. On November 17, 2023, Forward Bank began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted by the breach. The exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by Forward Bank. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license number
  • Financial account number
  • Credit or debit card number
  • Unique biometric data
