The Hilb Group Data Breach Investigation

Turke & Strauss LLP, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating The Hilb Group Operating Company, LLC regarding its recent data breach. The Hilb Group data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to over 81,000 individuals.

ABOUT THE HILB GROUP OPERATING COMPANY, LLC:

The Hilb Group is an independent insurance broker based in Virgina. Founded in 2009, the Hilb Group offers an array of personal and specialty insurance products as well as commercial insurance products specifically designed for mid-sized companies. Included in the Hilb Group’s suite of insurance products are auto, homeowners, life, professional liability, terrorism, workers’ compensation, commercial auto, and business income insurance. Additionally, the Hilb Group offers clients employee benefits and insurance services, such as HR consulting, dental insurance, group disability, healthcare, and retirement services. Headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, Hilb Group offers insurance products to customers across the United States and employs over 1,000 individuals.  

WHAT HAPPENED?

On January 10, 2023, the Hilb Group discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, the Hilb Group determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information through employee email accounts between December 1, 2022, and January 12, 2023. On November 2, 2023, the Hilb Group began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
