Wescom Central Credit Union Data Breach Investigation

Turke & Strauss LLP, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Wescom Central Credit Union regarding its recent data breach. The Wescom Central Credit Union data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to over 34,500 individuals.

As a member-owned financial institution, Wescom Central Credit Union provides accounts to anyone living or working in the Los Angeles area and any UCLA alumni. Wescom Central Credit Union offers checking and savings accounts, credit cards, and auto, personal, and home loans. Founded in 1934, Wescom Central Credit Union began as a credit union for Pacific Telephone employees to help them obtain loans. Today, Wescom Central Credit Union has expanded into a credit union with 24 branch locations and over $6 billion in assets. Headquartered in Pasadena, California, Wescom Central Credit Union has over 200,000 members and employs approximately 650 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On May 19, 2023, Wescom Central Credit Union discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, Wescom Central Credit Union determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information through a vulnerability in email security gateway used by Westcom Central Credit Union between October 30, 2022 and May 30, 2023. On October 20, 2023, Wescom Central Credit Union began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license number
  • Financial account number
