The Newtron Group Data Breach Investigation

Turke & Strauss LLP, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating The Newtron Group, L.L.C. regarding its recent data breach. The Newtron Group data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected information belonging to over 39,000 individuals.

As one of the largest privately-owned specialty industrial electrical and instrumentation construction contractors, The Newtron Group’s projects range from small capital projects and maintenance contracts, to multi-million dollar projects. With completed projects throughout the United States, The Newtron Group services clients in a variety of industries, including commercial and residential electrical, industrial mechanical, process automation, and electrical heat trace. Its owner, Newton B. Thomas, founded Newtron in 1973. In 1982, The Newtron Group added electrical installation services with the founding of Triad Electric & Controls and officially founded The Newtron Group as the parent company for both companies. Headquartered in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, The Newtron Company operates multiple regional offices across the United States and employs over 1,000 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, The Newtron Group discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, The Newtron Group determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed and acquired this sensitive information between August 2 to August 3, 2023. On October 13, 2023, The Newtron Group began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license number
  • Passport number
  • Date of birth
  • Financial account information
  • Medical information
  • Health insurance information
  • Birth certificate/marriage certificate
  • Tax ID number
