Wake Radiology Data Breach Investigation

Turke & Strauss LLP, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Wake Radiology regarding its recent data breach. The Wake Radiology data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

ABOUT WAKE RADIOLOGY:

Wake Radiology is a medical imaging company offering outpatient imaging locations in North Carolina. As a network of imaging facilities, Wake Radiology specializes in pediatric imaging, body imaging, neuro imaging, mammograms, and 3D Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Founded in 1953, Wake Radiology began as a general-purpose X-ray machine serving around 10 individuals per day. Today, Wake Radiology has grown to provide a wide range of imaging services and employs approximately 200 individuals. Headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina, Wake Radiology has locations in Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On May 31, 2023, a third-party vendor of Wake Radiology, Nuance Communications, discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, Nuance Communications determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information through a vulnerability in the MOVEit file sharing platform between May 28 and May 29, 2023. On September 22, 2023, Nuance Communications began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Address
  • Health insurance information
  • Demographic information
