SouthCoast Health Data Breach Investigation

Turke & Strauss LLP, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating SouthCoast Medical Group, LLC, which does business as Southcoast Health, regarding its recent data breach. The SouthCoast Health data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

SouthCoast Health is a medical system serving the Lowcountry and Coastal Empire areas of Georgia and South Carolina. Serving all age groups from pediatrics to geriatrics, SouthCoast Health offers comprehensive primary care services to its patients. Headquartered in Savannah, Georgia, SouthCoast Health provides specialty care for conditions including allergies, asthma, infectious diseases, sports injuries, sleep disorders, cancer, and cardiology. Founded in 1996, SouthCoast Health employs over 500 people through its 18 office locations.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On June 18, 2023, SouthCoast Health discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, SouthCoast Health determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed and obtained this sensitive information between June 15, 2023, and June 18, 2023. On August 17, 2023, SouthCoast Health posted a notice of the breach on its website. After its investigation concludes, SouthCoast Health plans to individually notify patients whose information was impacted by the breach. The type of information involved includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • Medical information (e.g., information related to treatment)
