Citarella and Lockwood & Winant Seafood Data Breach Investigation

Turke & Strauss LLP,a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Citarella Operating, LLC and Lockwood & Winant Seafood, LLC, which does business as Citarella and Lockwood & Winant Seafood, regarding its recent data breach. The Citarella and Lockwood & Winant Seafood data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to over 5,400 individuals.

Citarella and Lockwood & Winant Seafood is a family run, gourmet seafood restaurant and market chain. For over 100 years, Citarella and Lockwood & Winant Seafood has prided itself in offering the freshest seafood, a variety of high-quality meats, artisanal wines and cheeses, fresh produce, and other chef-made foods. Founded in 1912, Citarella and Lockwood & Winant Seafood started as a passion for owner Joe Guerrera, who grew up working in his family’s fish shop in Greenwich Village. Headquartered in New York, New York, Citarella and Lockwood & Winant Seafood operates seven locations across Manhattan, the Hamptons, and Greenwich, Connecticut.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On or around May 30, 2023, Citarella and Lockwood & Winant Seafood discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, Citarella and Lockwood & Winant Seafood determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed and obtained this sensitive information through a ransomware attack on or around February 10, 2023. On June 30, 2023, Citarella and Lockwood & Winant Seafood began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license or government issued state identification number
  • Date of birth
  • Financial account information (e.g., credit card numbers, bank account numbers, account usernames and passwords)
  • Health insurance information
  • Medical treatment information
