Markwins Data Breach Investigation

Turke & Strauss LLP, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Markwins Beauty Brands, Inc. regarding its recent data breach. The Markwins data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

ABOUT MARKWINS BEAUTY BRANDS, INC.:

Markwins is an indie beauty company specializing in cosmetic and skin care products. In 1984, Markwins was founded by Eric Chen as an importer of cosmetics from Taiwan. Over the years, Markwins has acquired other companies in order to add Wet n Wild, Black Radiance, Lip Smacker, and LORAC Cosmetics to its portfolio of brands. Included in the products developed and manufactured by Markwins are eye shadows, mascaras, concealers, blushes, and powders. Due to partnerships with The Walt Disney Company, Coca-Cola, and Marvel Comics, Markwins has also been able to produce themed make-up products. Today, Markwins is the largest independent cosmetic company in the United States with Markwins products available in 80 countries worldwide.

WHAT HAPPENED?

In February 2023, Markwins discovered that it experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, Markwins determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information on or around February 15, 2023. In June 2023, Markwins began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Health insurance information
