McPherson Center for Health Data Breach Investigation

As a hospital and clinic, McPherson Center for Health specializes in physical and occupational therapy as well as respiratory care, speech therapy, and surgery. Founded in 1898, the McPherson Center for Health began when Dr. John Crawford Hall opened a small sanitarium in McPherson. Today, McPherson Center for Health has grown into a hospital equipped with a 52-bed geriatric wing and emergency department as well as surgery center and radiology department. Headquartered in McPherson, Kansas, McPherson Center for Health has approximately 3,800 employees.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On March 15, 2023, McPherson Center for Health discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, McPherson Center for Health determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information on July 12, 2022. On May 4, 2023, McPherson Center for Health began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Medical record number
  • Health insurance information
  • Medical billing information
