Albertsons Companies Data Breach Investigation

Headquartered in Boise, Idaho, Albertsons Companies has locations in 34 states that service approximately 34 million customers weekly. One of the largest food and drug retailers in the county, Albertsons Companies has annual revenue of $75 billion and employs over 290,000 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On December 23, 2022, Albertsons Companies discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, Albertsons Companies determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed and acquired this sensitive information between December 22 and December 24, 2022. On April 21, 2023, Albertsons Companies began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The exact type of personal information has not been made publicly available by Albertsons Companies. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:

  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license number
  • Financial information
  • Medical information
  • Taxpayer information
  • Personal identification number issued by the United States IRS
