Kimco Realty Data Breach Investigation

Turke & Strauss LLP, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Kimco Realty Corporation, the parent company of Weingarten Realty Investors, regarding its recent data breach. The Kimco Realty data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.


Kimco Realty is a real estate investment trust offering property management and real estate development services. Accordingly, Kimco Realty specializes in shopping center management, ownership, acquisitions, and redevelopment. Founded in 1958, Kimco Realty prides itself as North America’s largest publicly traded owner and operator of open-air, grocery-anchored shopping centers and mixed-use assets. In August 2021, Kimco Realty acquired Weingarten Realty Investors, a grocery-anchored shopping center owner, manager, and developer. Headquartered in Jericho, New York, Kimco Realty operates 27 offices throughout the United States and conducts business primarily in the first-ring suburbs of top major metropolitan markets.


In February 2023, Kimco Realty discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, Kimco Realty determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed and obtained this sensitive information contained in a former Weingarten Realty Investors network on or about February 8, 2023. On April 14, 2023, Kimco Realty began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:

  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Driver’s license number
  • Health insurance and other benefit plan information (e.g., pension information)
  • Direct deposit information (e.g., bank and routing information)
