Monument Pixel Data Breach Investigation

Turke & Strauss LLP, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Monument, Inc. and its affiliated partners, Tempest, Live Life Now Health Group, and Purdy Medical Corp., regarding its recent data breach. The Monument data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

ABOUT MONUMENT, INC.: 

Monument is a healthcare provider that specializes in offering online treatment programs for patients struggling with alcohol dependency and addiction. Accordingly, Monument creates individualized treatment plans combining therapy, medication, and community support. Monument was founded to provide a confidential, anonymous, and accessible platform for those with alcohol use disorders. Indeed, Monument is capable of connecting patients with certified therapists and physicians, prescribing the medications naltrexone and disulfiram, moderating support groups, and providing an online support forum. Headquartered in New York, New York, Monument partners with affiliated health groups in addition to offering direct services.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Monument and its affiliated website, Tempest, reported a data breach impacting an unknown number of individuals. Furthermore, Monument indicated that individuals belonging to its partner medical groups, Live Life Now Health Group and Purdy Medical Corp., may have also been impacted. The data breach involved the personal identifiable information and protected health information of users who may have used Monument’s platform before February 23, 2023. Monument disclosed that an online information tracking pixel installed on its website collected and transmitted this protected health information to the third parties providing the pixel technology, including Meta (Facebook) and Google. On March 28, 2023, Monument began contacting individuals who may have been affected. The type of information impacted includes: 

  • Name
  • Contact information (e.g., email address, telephone number)
  • Address
  • Photographs
  • Health insurance information (e.g., member identification number)
  • Date of birth
  • IP address
  • URL address
  • Medical information (e.g., selected services, survey responses, appointment information)
