Hutchinson Clinic Data Breach Investigation

The Hutchinson Clinic data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

Hutchinson Clinic is a healthcare provider that specializes in offering primary care, urgent care services, and expertise in over 30 areas of practice. Founded in 1959, Hutchinson Clinic has grown over the years by opening clinics to serve general surgery, allergy, and neurology practices. Today, Hutchinson Clinic provides expertise in everything from cardiology and rheumatology to pulmonology and occupational medicine. Headquartered in Hutchinson, Kansas, Hutchinson Clinic operates four main facilities and a handful of outreach clinics throughout central and south-western Kansas. Currently, Hutchinson Clinic employs more than 100 physicians and over 600 total individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On or about December 21, 2022, Hutchinson Clinic discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, Hutchinson Clinic determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed and obtained this sensitive information between December 19 and December 21, 2022. On February 17, 2023, Hutchinson Clinic posted notice of the data breach on its website. The type of information exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Driver’s license number
  • Contact information
  • Health insurance information
  • Medical information (record number, physician name, diagnosis or treatment information)
