Apex Tool Group Data Breach Investigation

Turke & Strauss LLP, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Apex Tool Group, LLC regarding its recent data breach. The Apex Tool Group data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to an undetermined number of current and former employees.


Apex Tool Group is a multinational tool manufacturing company that specializes in producing hand, power, and electronic tools for a wide variety of industries. Officially established in 2010, Apex Tool Group’s history goes back to the founding of a scissor factory in 1848. Over the next century and a half, Apex Tool Group was formed through several mergers and acquisitions. Today, Apex Tool Group manufactures tools for a large number of industries, including the automotive, utility, aerospace, industrial, and construction sectors. Headquartered in Sparks, Maryland, Apex Tool Group operates offices and factories across more than 30 countries and four continents. Apex Tool Group employs over 8,000 individuals and manages an annual revenue of approximately $1.6 billion.


On March 11, 2022, Apex Tool Group discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, Apex Tool Group determined that an unauthorized actor may have initially accessed this sensitive information on or around February 21, 2022. On February 8, 2023, Apex Tool Group began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Driver’s license number
  • Passport number
  • Financial information (e.g., account number)
