Kaye-Smith Data Breach Investigation

Turke & Strauss LLP, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Kaye-Smith Enterprises, Inc., regarding its recent data breach. Kaye-Smith is a vendor that provides billing services to health care organizations across the country, including MultiCare Health System. The Kaye-Smith data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging an unknown number of individuals.

ABOUT KAYE-SMITH ENTERPRISES, INC.:

Kaye-Smith is a marketing executing and supply chain company that specializes in offering statement processing and billing services, direct mail marketing, fulfillment, warehousing and distribution, inventory management, and merchandise branding. Founded in 1908, Kaye-Smith began as a book printing company. Over time, Kaye-Smith expanded into concert promotion and even operated a handful of radio stations. Kaye-Smith evolved into its current form throughout the 1980s and 90s, selling its radio stations and focusing its efforts on printing and marketing services. Kaye-Smith counts numerous health care organizations and banking institutions as clients, including MultiCare Health System. Headquartered in Renton, Washington, Kaye-Smith employs more than 200 individuals and operates offices in Portland, Oregon and Eagle, Idaho.

WHAT HAPPENED?

In June 2022, Kaye-Smith discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, Kaye-Smith determined that an unauthorized actor accessed the sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to its clients, including the sensitive information of employees of MultiCare Health System. Kaye-Smith further disclosed that the unauthorized actor accessed this information by launching a ransomware attack. On September 26, 2022, Kaye-Smith began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The types of information exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Address
