Swissport North America is a subsidiary company of Swissport International. Accordingly, Swissport North America provides on-the-ground aviation services, including passenger services, fueling, ramp handling, cargo handling, and more. Additionally, Swissport North America offers lounge and hospitality services to select airports. Founded in 1996, Swissport International began its business in Canton of Zurich, Switzerland, growing quickly over the next two decades by moving into markets beyond Europe, including North America. Today, Swissport North America is headquartered in Dulles, Virginia, and conducts operations across Mexico, the United States, and Canada.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On February 3, 2022, Swissport North America discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, Swissport North America concluded that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information between February 1 and February 3, 2022. On September 29, 2022, Swissport North America began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The exact type of information has not been disclosed by Swissport North America. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:

  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license number
  • Financial information
  • Medical information
  • Taxpayer information
  • Personal identification number issued by the United States IRS
