Ardagh Group Data Breach Investigation

Turke & Strauss LLP, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Ardagh Group and its subsidiary, Ardagh Glass Inc., regarding its recent breach. The Ardagh Group data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to over 5,600 individuals.

Ardagh Group is a global supplier of metal and glass packaging for brand owners. Ardagh Group focuses on supplying materials that are 100% recyclable in all of its markets. Headquartered in Luxembourg, Ardagh Group operates 65 production facilities in 16 countries, including Ardagh Glass, its United States-based glass packaging subsidiary. Ardagh Group has 29 locations in the United States, including both glass and metal production facilities. Originally founded in 1932 as the Irish Glass Bottle Company, Ardagh Group has grown to employ over 20,000 people with sales of approximately $10 billion annually.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On May 2, 2021, Ardagh Group discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its system was have been accessed. Ardagh Group disclosed that the data breach was a ransomware attack that encrypted portions of its network in the United States and Europe. Through its investigation, Ardagh Group determined that the personal identifiable information in its system may have been exposed between April 23, 2021, and May 19, 2021. Additionally, in October 2021, Ardagh Group learned that data taken from its system was posted on the dark web. On July 5, 2022, Ardagh Group began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license number
  • Passport number or other governmental identification number
  • Birth certificate
  • Financial account number
  • Work-related injury information
