Airbag Safety Defect | Class Action Investigation

Federal regulators recently announced an investigation regarding several automakers, including Honda, Toyota, Kia, and Hyundai regarding potentially faulty airbags. These airbags, which are manufactured by ZF Friedrichshafen AG (“ZF-TRW”) may not inflate during a collision. Several class action lawsuits across the country already have been filed regarding these claims.

ZF-TRW is a global supplier of vehicle safety technology, including airbags. The ZF-TRW airbags are believed to be installed in more than 12 million US vehicles.

Based on the NHTSA investigation, we believe the wiring of ZF-TWR’s airbag system may have caused problems with the component’s ability to send signals to the airbag inflator during a collision. We believe, unwanted electrical signals maybe released during a crash and compromise the airbag control circuit (ACU). ACUs monitor signals from crash sensors If the ACU fails, the airbag may not deploy when needed. Several incidents have been reported, including one incident that involved a fatality. According to the NHTSA, every vehicle has an ACU component but the level of security surrounding the circuit varies between vehicles.
