Lakewood Medical Center Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Lakewood Medical Center, PC (“LMC”) regarding its recent data breach. The LMC data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to approximately 2,500 individuals.

LMC is a healthcare center based in Colorado. Specializing in personalized healthcare, LMC offers a variety of services, including INS initial checkup, in which LMC creates and maintains records for international patients who have just come to the United States, and all-around geriatric care.2 Additionally, the primary care physician at LMC has a specialization for obese patients, creating a plan for optimal health.2 Headquartered in Lakewood, Colorado, LMC has one location.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On January 26, 2024, LMC discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, LMC determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information via a ransomware attack that took place between January 25 and January 26, 2024. As a result, LMC began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Contact information
  • Driver’s license number
  • Medical information (e.g., dates and type of treatment or service, medical diagnosis and conditions, lab results, medications, other medical information)
