Dawson James Securities Data Breach Investigation

Turke & Strauss LLP, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Dawson James Securities, Inc. (“Dawson James”) regarding its recent data breach. The Dawson James data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.


Dawson James is a privately held investment banking firm based in Florida. Founded in 2004, Dawson James specializes in capital raising for small and microcap public and private growth companies primarily in the Life Science/Health Care, Technology and Consumer sectors.2 Additionally, Dawson James is a full service investment banking firm with research, institutional and retail sales, as well as execution trading and corporate services.2 Headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida, Dawson James has additional locations in New York, Maryland, and New Jersey, and employs over 50 individuals.


On June 30, 2023, Dawson James discovered that it had experienced a data beach in which sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, Dawson James determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information between June 29 and June 30, 2023. On January 17, 2024, Dawson James began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by Dawson James. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license or state-issued identification number
  • Financial information (e.g., financial account number, credit or debit card number)
  • Medical information
  • Taxpayer ID number
  • Identity protection personal ID number
