Acorn Financial Services Data Breach Investigation

Turke & Strauss LLP, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Acorn Financial Advisory Services, Inc., which does business as Acorn Financial Services, regarding its recent data breach. The Acorn Financial Services data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

Headquartered in Reston, Virginia, Acorn Financial Services operates satellite offices throughout Virginia and Maryland.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On or about August 22, 2022, Acorn Financial Services discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, Acorn Financial Services determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information through an employee email account. On January 31, 2023, Acorn Financial Services began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Driver’s license number
  • Address
  • Financial information (e.g., account number)
